T*S*E Rant ~ Rant on Retail

Welcome back, folks!
This week’s “Off the ‘Spice’ Rack” is on the fly; no notes and no pre-discussions on the outside…. I must warn you though, I thoughts tend to wander but I’ll TRY to keep in check.

Last week, after I got my evaluation at work {yeah, they still have those}; I thought a lot about who REALLY had my back in life.
People say that you can always rely on family, but after what happened while my father was ill until his death; the ONLY thing most of his brothers and sisters were doing was asking for their cut from the property left over.
For more details on that, I’ll be writing a book about it.
Anyway, I like to talk about how to be choosy who you let into your lives, cuz family you’re stuck with.

First, there are your school friends….and for those who are about to head off for the Spring semester better take this to heart.
There are always gonna be cliques as well as wannabe players and ‘ratchets’, there is no easy way to prevent fake friendships but you can spot them early on. One thing I had found out quick is that everyone uses someone else to get what they want.

When hanging out with new people, observe how they treat others around them including your ‘friends’. Do they ask for favors often but don’t do the same for anyone else? Do they laugh at jokes that are hurtful to others? Or do they spread rumors and try to deny it to the person involved?
Sadly, we have that kind of toxic people who love to start drama for one reason or another; why should you be their amusement?
There are other ways to spot them, but this is good enough for now.
Use your judgment.

Next is if you’re lucky in finding a job but not so lucky with your co-workers.
Let me tell you here and now that folks are always trying to kiss ass or out-do you in some way to get that promotion. Competition can be fierce when you’re young but as Adults, no one’s afraid to stab anyone in the back if it means they get ahead.

To keep out of those sticky situations, keep your mouth shut and your personal opinions to yourself. I found out the hard way that speaking about one’s ideas on improving company production, there’s a lap dog of the workplace running straight to management. Another co-worker of mine, who had ambitions and high hopes for one of the Supervisor positions had it stolen by the current Kids Supervisor due to her being “chummy” {a nicer word for it} with the Store Manager.
Also, I want to mention that it IS okay to have friends at work, but again just be wary —- especially if you plan on dating any of them.

Another good tidbit to learn is learn your neighborhood and the people you’re around, mainly due to if you have or planning to start a family. Many crimes happen to children and most of it is due to someone the parents trusted. My Ma and Nana were both victims of the same circumstances.

Then you have the ‘busybodies’ that want to know EVERY thing of your life cuz they don’t have one of their own; try as you might, they won’t go away when they get tired of their Soaps. So, my advice is to shut them down quick before they can get ahold of you.
Say you have an errand that can’t wait or you have to pick up the kids from daycare —- anything before they bother you for that ‘cup of sugar’ ;)

With that note, “Off the ‘Spice’ Rack” will be back next Tuesday.
Don’t forget to read Frankie D’s new post coming up soon.

Til then, keep it ‘Spicy’ all week!
